I hate Michael Cera. HATE HATE HATE. I will not watch a Michael Cera movie unless I’m dragged to watch it or if it’s free. So once I was in the theater, I tried repeating “I’m watching it for my friends” over and over in my head to get me through another 2 hours after suffering 2 and a half hours for Eat Pray Love. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to repeat anything. The movie was AMAZING.
The director was doing an adaptation of a graphic novel. The movie reminded me exactly of a comic book if it were in film form. It was so unique and different I couldn’t help but enjoy every minute. The plot was so odd and eccentric, but it really got me hooked. The weird moments made the movie hilarious, and believe me, the whole movie consists of weird moments.
I’d try and pinpoint my favorite part or the scene stealers of the movie, but the fact of the matter is that it is a great ensemble cast. Who knew that Michael Cera wouldn’t completely bug the shit out of me or that Mary Elizabeth Winstead would have more variety than that of her lame turn in the 2005 movie “Sky High.” I loved Kieran Culkin. Loved him. He was too much, but that is never a bad thing, really. Ellen Wong could not have been more perfect for the roll and his band members each had their own oddity that complimented one another. Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza had weird roles, but they were funny nonetheless. Chris Evans was the perfect jackass and Brandon Routh was a MAJOR FOX. And who knew Mae Whitman (voice of Avatar’s Kitara) was that funny? I just thought the movie was too great for words and it was one enjoyable acid trip of a movie.
